Election Commission certifies SG results

Nearly three months after the 07-08 University of Michigan-Dearborn Student Government elections took place, the Election Commission has finally certified the results. SG Advisor Randy Dillard sent out an e-mail Friday announcing the certification. In it, he stated that the candidates with the original highest vote count will be appointed.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn recently unveiled plans to build foot-washing stations in two bathrooms on its campus, initiating a war over whether or not the stations breach the separation of church and state. The oft-stated figure for the cost of the stations has been $25,000 but, along with the necessary renovations made to the bathrooms, the cost will total $100,000 - a figure that has many steaming.

Estate hosts garden tours

Built in 1915 at the peak of Henry and Clara Ford's lives, the Henry Ford Estate Fair Lane included a mansion, an elaborate powerhouse and garage, the Rouge River with a magnificent cascade, celebrated landscape architecture and gardens, an ice-skating house, a miniature farmhouse, a pony barn, a chicken house, workers' cottages and approximately 1,300 acres complete with 300-year old trees.

Chemistry Professor studies the small things on campus

University of Michigan-Dearborn Assistant Professor of Chemistry Dr. Krisanu Bandyopadhyay hopes his research and teachings inspire students to examine the world around them, particularly the extra small parts. Bandyopadhyay's interest and specialty is in the field of nanotechnology, although he stresses the need for knowledge in all the natural science disciplines.

Trepainer-Street making strides as new SOE Associate Dean

The University Board of Regents approved a new dean for the University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Education (SOE) on Jan 1. Dr. Mary Trepanier-Street has been with UM-D for 30 years. Trepanier-Street is a Professor of Early Childhood Education and has been Director of the UM-D Child Development Center since 1995.

CORRECTION

In our Freshmen Orientation Issue, the Academic Unit Info said that Bruce Bublitz is the dean of the School of Management. This is incorrect. The new dean is Kim Schatzel.
